Flying night tables, slender tapered lines and a broad cantilevered platform characterize this surprisingly light looking captains bed.

When the client requested storage drawers to be included in their piece it posed a unique challenge to keep the bed's proportions and visual weights balanced while incorporating multiple drawers. This aesthetic problem was solved by creating a strong contrast between the plinth style base with drawers in a rich black oxide patina and the more striking figure of the platform and headboard dressed in a delicate Pomelle Bubinga veneer. This contrast highlights these upper elements which were created using gentle tapers and broad floating cantilevers that achieve the lightweight feel.
